The yeast we supply is stored cold under controlled conditions to ensure optimal preservation and maintain its viability.
Despite these precautions, it may happen that some sachets feel soft to the touch. This phenomenon is generally due to a slight loss of vacuum or natural variations in packaging. This does not automatically mean that the yeast is unusable.
Here are the steps to follow if you receive a soft yeast sachet:
1. Check the overall condition of the sachet
Before any use, check:
- No leaks or perforations;
- The integrity of the sachet seals;
- No abnormal odor;
- The expiration date.
If the sachet is intact, the yeast can often be used without any problem.
2. Do not rely solely on the appearance of the sachet
A soft sachet does not necessarily mean that the yeast is inactive. Some yeasts may lose firmness without losing effectiveness and remain fully active despite slight depressurization of the packaging.
3. Perform a test if in doubt
If you have any doubts, you can carry out a simple test:
- Rehydrate a small amount of yeast in lukewarm slightly sweetened water;
- Observe the appearance of activity (bubbles, foam, or the start of fermentation).
If activity is visible, the yeast is viable.
4. Do not use the yeast in the following cases
Do not use the yeast if:
- An unusual or suspicious odor is present;
- No activity is observed during the test;
- The sachet shows visible damage or a leak.
