The HI764113 optical probe works on the principle of luminescence quenching of an oxygen?sensitive luminophore. A platinum?based inert luminophore is excited by a blue LED and referenced by a red LED. Blue light excites the luminophore electrons, which then release energy as red light when returning to their normal state. Oxygen molecules absorb part of this energy, reducing both intensity and duration of the emitted red light. This quenching effect is measured by a photodetector and converted into dissolved oxygen concentration. The faster the quenching, the higher the dissolved oxygen concentration. Luminescence oxygen measurement is a physical, time?based measurement.
